The Red Fort & Akbar

Had a good meal on a Friday night, surprisingly quiet in the restaurant though. The food was well above average quality but some of the prices did some unreasonably high, particularly some of the vegetable dishes, bread etc. Even with the 30% offer the meal was expensive, but our bill did include lots of wine! Service good and wine list extensive.

Went along with my wife for lunch and took advanatge of the TT 50% off deal. We had the starter share platter which was very nice, followed by Samundari ratan and Murgh bemisaa. We had a bottle of wine (these start at £25 and up) and just a coffee to finish. Even with the deal this came out at just under £90 and though the food was very good I would have definately gulped if we had paid full price for what was still quite a fairly light lunch!

The Red Fort is not a super cheap option (we were on a 30% off food deal & our bill still came to £98 for two with 4 glasses of wine) but the food is very good indeed. All our dishes were packed with flavours, each one distinct from the others, with my only complaint being a slightly heavy use of ghee. You will have a MUCH better meal here than the utterly over-rated michelin-starred Benares nearby in Mayfair. I will certainly be returning!
