Zigfrid von Underbelly

About Zigfrid von Underbelly

Art bar and restaurant Zigfrid von Underbelly is a unique venue which perfectly suits its location in London’s trendy and artistic Hoxton area. Two parts arty eclectica to one part rock and roll anarchy, Zigfrid von Underbelly comes complete with a possibly-true legend featuring anti-establishment icons Sid Vicious and Phil Lynott and the eponymous mythical part-German part-Polish aristocrat ZvU. Inside the dimly lit bar, dining room and live lounge grandma’s furnishings are combined with graffiti-esque wallpapers, Victoriana bathrooms and photographic portraits of rock royalty. Live music at Zigfrid von Underbelly is combined with excellent original and classic cocktails and good bar-restaurant food including tapas, hearty brunches, burgers and a surprising seafood selection.

Zigfrid von Underbelly - 11 Hoxton Sq, N1 6NU we had a great time, the steaks were good, a couple of my friends said their's had not been cooked to order properly - so a little overdone when they wanted medium rare. The service was a little slow at first but despite that everyone had a fab time, would go again, love the quirkiness of this place - hard to describe but if you want a good burger and be fascinated looking at weird objects then come here. I love it as do many others.

Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. They were very good about us cancelling an order which didn't come in time before we had to leave. Unfortunately they didn't come up to scratch with the salad which was just mixed leaves no tomato or dressing, also the seafood platter didn't have any lemon with it. Both were remedied by asking but we thought these things should be fairly standard.

One of the big favourites of BBC's Bob Harris (she's doing a guest session for him a week before this show) Oregon-born Rachel has caused quite a stir with her debut, The Bootlegger's Daughter, a folk, bluegrass and country gem. With her on this tour is the mandolin star, Zak Borden, who is often seen in the company of Willy Mason (his cousin) and Casey Neill.

Alt-classical prog-punk act Birdeatsbaby are an unusual four-piece that hail from Brighton, UK. Not really fitting into any current musical trends, the band steer towards a ‘dark cabaret’ rock sound, with fast-paced and complex drums, piano, bass and violin all tied up with huge and catchy choruses. Like a more hyper-active Nick Cave meets a slightly depressed Freddie Mercury, Birdeatsbaby have been described as many things, including ‘a distinctly unhinged brand of burlesque freak-pop’, and ‘Twin Peaks on snuff.
