A lively, buzzy, stylish eatery and meeting place in an exciting part of town. The Light is a newcomer on the Shoreditch scene which is attracting lots of positive attention. The funky decor and French/Mediterranean menu, attract a young, vivacious crowd, including city folk, media and design types. Lunch is busy, evenings romantic, and you won't have to shout your sweet nothings over the pulsing background music, because there isn't any.
Aaah, start with a half-dozen oysters served with shallot vinaigrette, pickled lemon and chilli salsa, either with a pint of Guinness or a glass of champagne. Main favourites include oxtail in crepinette, with celeriac puree, roast shallots and root veg. Blistering wine list.

Distinctly average. Even with the discount, I thought the food was overpriced. It was on Valentines day, but it wasn't exactly rammed, there were about 4 other tables. First, one waitress came back 15min after we ordered to "double check" if our orders had gone through as she wasn't sure. The other waitress then waited until just before our steaks were being brought out to tell us that it didn't come with anything and would we like to order a side dish to go with it. The dessert wasn't great.
A good choice in a pretty grotty area for a casual business lunch. Good food and service but completely empty so ideal for talking but not if you want atmosphere. Great conversion of a station yard.
excellent food and value
As a large group, we had to pre-order our food with The Light Restaurant three days in advance. This was very well done, they had prepared name badges with everyone's menu choices ready for us on arrival. Unfortunately, when they were bringing out the food they had forgotten all of our side orders and ended up double charging us for the desserts. Otherwise, the service was fine if at times a bit moody. The food was great though!
The Light Restaurant and Bar, London. Four of us ate there at lunch time and were all really impressed with our food which had lovely flavours and was of a much more refined standard than expected. It was a bit cold in the restaurant and very very quiet which is a pity as the food is a lot better than other places nearby but there wasn't much atmosphere.. Service was very friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend the food
