Criterion Restaurant

About Criterion Restaurant

Situated in the heart of London’s West End and directly opposite Eros on Piccadilly Circus, The Criterion restaurant has been serving up fine food and wine to London’s dining elite since 1873. Recently relaunched by new owners, this opulent eatery is now brilliantly restored to its former glory. A well-dressed crowd gathers beneath the Criterion’s gilded ceilings, grand windows and imposing arches. The bar, decked out in red velvet, is equally glamorous but the wine list is not outrageously priced, with several reasonable by-the-glass options. The Criterion offers a classic European menu, with top quality ingredients cooked simply and presented with flair. We recommend the pork loin and belly with black pudding and pea purée; the delicious ostrich fillet; and the subtle vanilla panna cotta with rhubarb. For a decadent dinner, a pre-theatre supper or a stylish meal at any time, you can’t go wrong at the Criterion.

My starter, bean soup, was generous but uninspired. My main course, a vegetarian pastry, was fair. My dessert, a nougat with raspberries and basil, was sensational. All this for £25? Outrageously good value and very good quality. The service was superlative. The Criterion is the most beautiful London restaurant that I can name and I unhesitatingly recommend it - nay, I positively exhort you to go there.

Had dinner with a friend of mine on Friday at Criterion. Great as usual. Food was tasty, service was polite and great live music.

The food at the Criterion is always delicious and the setting never fails to impress. Service is attentive but not intrusive and last night it reaffirmed why the criterion is my favourite restaurant in London.

I took my boyfriend for his birthday dinner there. Restaurant is very pretty and stylish - you forget that its busy piccadilly outside! We booked an offer but choice on that was very limited and not exciting at all -so we went with al carte - which was lovely but quite pricey. My boyfirend loved his lamb but he said the portion wasnt big enough for him - and he is not a big guy. Overall nice experience .
