The Body Clothed at The Princes Drawing School
Course16 Jan 2012 to 19 Mar 2012
Painters have long loved the texture of rag, sacking, tears and stains on fabric. The Spanish painter Ribera made moving images of recluses in rags in the desert for church commissioning authorities. Gainsborough too, influenced by the Spaniards painted children in ragged picturesque clothing in rural landscapes. Current dance and opera performances are essential references.

Challenging Interiors at The Princes Drawing School
Course16 Jan 2012 to 19 Mar 2012
This course looks at the challenge of making drawings of a large public space. It rotates between two \ntutors on alternate weeks. With one tutor, students will explore a complex and busy subject through many drawings and sketches, responding to the atmosphere and energy within the place. These are then worked into a single large drawing that the students work on away from the subject, in their own time. In the alternate session, large drawings will be produced from direct observation working on location. Students will be introduced to the use of perspective in drawing buildings with an emphasis on the formal problem of maintaining the coherence of the view.
