Toptable says about Shikara

Shikara, it seems, enjoys a reputation among local businesses (the Beeb included) as one of the best good-value curry houses in the West End. The décor is simple, clean and comfortable; most of the emphasis is on the welcoming service and really rather good food. Popadums are fresh, warm and crisp; samosas light and not too greasy. In support of its philosophy that wholesome food and good health are directly linked, Shikara's menu explains the health benefits of the herbs and spices it uses. Plus you can choose your dish to be cooked in ghee or olive oil.

New reviews coming soon

The lovely staff were not, unfortunately, enough to make up for a very pedestrian curry. This place is good if you like tikka massala - curry 70's stylie - but there are so many great places out there serving up great and innovative indian cuisine, it's hard to see the point of Shikara.

I booked Shikara for lunchtime for myself and a group of colleagues. We were the only diners in the restaurant. The food was average and the service very slow. For five diners, poppadoms, a main course and coffee took two and a half hours! There wasn't much ambience at the restaurant (probably because we were the only ones there), and I would be reluctant to book again for a lunchtime meeting - but would perhaps book for a long evening dinner.

I have been to Shikara on various occasions and found the food and staff to be excellent each time. In my opinion it is the best Indian in the West End and is a hidden gem.

Very pleased with Shikara, lived up to the reviews I read below. Was very quiet on a Sunday night, but atmosphere still good as quite a small upstairs space.

This was our 4th visit to Shikara , always enjoy the food.

Main course's excellent, only criticism we found the mango & mint yogurt ,with the popadums a bit to thick, to our taste. TM
