If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a pleasant surprise! Epping Forest is an ancient woodland measuring 19km by 4km, and is the largest public open space in the London area. It was once used as a royal hunting forest, and Queen Elizabeth I's hunting lodge can still be seen today. Other attractions include guided walks, open-air theatre, the grade II-listed Wanstead Park and the remains of two large Iron Age earthworks at Loughton Camp and Ambresbury Banks.
