About The British Optical Association Museum
Founded by J.H. Sutcliffe of the British Optical Association in 1901, the museum houses 17,000 items relating to the history of ophthalmic optics (optometry), the human eye and visual aids, as well as the representation of these subjects in art. The collection includes over 2,000 pairs of spectacles, from the 17th century through to the 21st, as well as historic examples of other optical devices and aids to vision including scissor spectacles, folding eyeglasses, pince-nez, lorgnettes, magnifiers, quizzing glasses and monocles. Open by prior appointment.
