Toptable says about The Hoxton Apprentice

Like the idea of doing good just by eating out? Much like Jamie Oliver's Fifteen round the corner, the Hoxton Apprentice is a charitable venture that trains the local community's long-term unemployed. There's nothing worthy, mind you, about the décor -a sexy, modern dining space set over two floors of a high-vaulted former primary school. The food, too, is simple, and easy on the pocket. A pleasing menu of European favourites is split into small and large (you choose whether to have a dish as a starter or a main) servings of 'bowls / breads' (including baba ganoush), 'colds' (bruschetta of the day), 'hots' (fillet of beef with dark ale jus, roast pumpkin and roast plum tomatoes), and tasty sides. Good brunch and roasts. There's a nice little pavement terrace for sunny afternoons, and service is really friendly.

The Hoxton Apprentice was a really great place. The food was of good quality and the selection available was great. The wine we had was also fantastic and with the bill amounting to £40 a head we thought it was great value for money - especially as that included 2 bottles of wine and a bottle of Proseco!

The Hoxton Apprentice is a great restaurant, set in the lovely area of Hoxton Square. The building used to be a primary school and is really lovely with a split level. We were seen to straight away by the most friendliest waiter, it really was great service.

Whilst the food wasn't cheap it was definitely worth the money. The menu was not extensive, however this is always a good sign of good produce. The food was delicous, and whilst you did not get huge portions, it really filled you up!

Excellent food in a romantic atmosphere. Complimentary pink champage and oysters (if you like oysters!) were a lovely idea. The chicken was moist with a wonderfully creamy sauce and the chocolate fondant was gorgeous.

Hoxton Apprentice - service was enthusiastic and friendly. Food was so-so - my herb-crusted salmon was a bit too "fishy" with very little herb flavour; a rump steak was good, but unevenly cooked. Desserts better - an excellent creme brulee, and a real, old-school apple and pear crumble (which was great to my English pallette - but too heavy for my Australian companion!). Nice venue and good value. Willing to give the food another chance.

We had an early lunch booking & were 1st customers, luckily, as it turns out as an Xmas lunch party of 40ish arrived just after we had ordered. our food arrived smoothly and was excellent, my wife thought here salmon, although plainly cooked, was about the best she had tasted & we both thought the home made xmas pud was superb. The staff were friendly & the service fine. an upstairs table looking down on the main restaurant gave us plenty to watch & time passed quickly.
