Tamarai

About Tamarai

Tamarai restaurant in London's Covent Garden serves food from the “lotus trail” that runs from Chettinad in southern India to Burma, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. And with specialists in each cuisine manning the kitchen, you know you’re getting the real pan-Asian McCoy. Mix and match your way across the continent, with a Thai starter of sweet chilli lotus root with chives and fresh coriander, followed by curried sea bass with spicy mee krob from Malaysia, or curry leaf king prawns with wild rice uppama from Chettinad. Finish with mango rawa kesari and coconut jaggery ice cream in a sesame tuile. Tamarai was awarded Best Wine List in London by the Independent. And the décor matches the superb pan-Asian cuisine. Tamarai is glamorously exotic with plush seating, dim lighting, and a fun metamorphosis into a club as the evening goes on.

Really good value for money (£15 for three courses in central London!). However, the only downside to this place was that the portions were very small even though the quality was excellent.

Tamarai in Covent Garden London had fantastic food, but thought the service was pretty slow and not particularly friendly. Also, billing it as containing a separate club is misleading, it is all just one big room, so they started playing really loud music while we were still eating. We were seated right under a speaker, so could barely hear each other. Great food for the price though!

Great decor, good value for 3 courses, entree (chicken dim sum) and main (green chicken curry) were a good size.

Asked to be moved as our pre-booked table was close to the door, even though lots of other tables were available. Eventually sat down in the dining area, and service was first rate after that. Food was well worth the offer price. We ordered the peppery dishes which added a 'zing' to the meal. Nice ambience and an enjoyable fri night.'
