Queen's Head & Artichoke

About Queen's Head & Artichoke

Once the beautiful Victorian interiors of this old pub were restored to their original glory and the first floor dining room opened, along with outside terrace for dining, the locals must have breathed a sigh of delight before tucking into some seriously good gastropub grub. Business folk crowd in at lunchtimes, while friendlier couples and groups pack in evenings and weekends. There is something here to suit most palates and pockets. The menu changes daily - another sign that they're serious about food here - but we recently loved the fish chowder, and the aubergine, potato and spinach bhaji with yoghurt. The wine list is heaven.

Very good as ever at the Queens Head & Artichoke. The menu continues to be varied and interesting - both the wide tapas selection and the unusual mains were good - and entirely reasonable value, supported by a fine selection of beers! We will continue to be regular visitors!

Food was for the most part very average. A couple of interesting dishes were the exception in an otherwise very blend assortment. The good effort of our waiter was ruined by the very annoying and rude manager. It is unfortunate that the food and service came short of the promising menu and cosy atmosphere of the place.

Had an enjoyable meal at the Queen's Head - dinner is served in the upstairs dining room which has an intimate, cosy atmosphere. The menu has tapas food one one side and gastropub courses on the other - the good thing here is you can mix and match the two if you like. Had a tapas starter - calamari and manchego spring rolls - which were lovely. Main was venison meatballs with potatoes in a chocolate-flavoured broth which tasted fab. Nice chocolate ice cream for dessert, great service all night.

There's something about the Queen's Head and Artichoke that never let's you down - good ambience whether rammed full or hardly busy, and food that always delivers. The tapas always tastes fresh and the wine list is extensive enough to never get bored.

We were in the upper restaurant, which is separate from the bar/ pub area below. Very nicely decorated, simple but cosy room. Food was average but not bad and service was very good. I would definitely recommend the place.
