Toptable says about Queen's Head & Artichoke

Once the beautiful Victorian interiors of this old pub were restored to their original glory and the first floor dining room opened, along with outside terrace for dining, the locals must have breathed a sigh of delight before tucking into some seriously good gastropub grub. Business folk crowd in at lunchtimes, while friendlier couples and groups pack in evenings and weekends. There is something here to suit most palates and pockets. The menu changes daily - another sign that they're serious about food here - but we recently loved the fish chowder, and the aubergine, potato and spinach bhaji with yoghurt. The wine list is heaven.

I have been here once before and love the venue. Fantasic ambience and the food it good. They don't rush you so a meal does turn into an afternoon in a lovely pub with your mates. This time thought the service was not the best - 2 people had to leave without eating because it was so slow - but I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt since we were a large group and last time the service was good.

The queens head and artichoke was a great place for sunday lunch with decent food and a good atmosphere . We sat upstairs in the restaurant rather than downstairs in the main bar area - I would recommend the bar area for a group of friends as it is much livelier with a great atmosphere.

Sat in the restaurant upstairs at the Queen's Head and Artichoke this time which was quieter than the busy bar on a Friday night. Unfortunately, although we were only ordering tapas, the food took a while and I'm sure the portion sizes have diminished (but not the price) since my last visit. Must be these credit crunching times. Still rate the Q and A as a great gatro however.
