The Smithfield Tandoori

About The Smithfield Tandoori

After a hard morning trawling the market or a day behind a desk in the City, there are few places more perfect for relaxing and unwinding than The Smithfield Tandoori, recommended by no less than The Evening Standard’s Charles Campion as one of his picks for London curry. Proudly traditional in its cooking style, The Smithfield Tandoori concentrates on food, leaving its dining room simple and unfussy, decorated in red and white with high ceilings and unpretentious furnishings, providing an atmosphere which really does make visitors concentrate on flavours and aromas, not to mention the warm, professional service. Sourcing local ingredients wherever possible, The Smithfield Tandoori makes use of the wealth of market traders around the capital, using fresh and traceable produce in authentic Tandoori and regional Indian dishes. The kitchen insists not only on making up all their own curry pastes, but in eschewing all unnatural additives, meaning that The Smithfield Tandoori is one of only a few Indian restaurants in the capital where ‘home-cooked’ really means something.

Nice dinner with friends at the Smithfiled Tandoori. Very good quality food in swish new surroundings, much nicer than their previous location. Perhaps a little pricey, but I guess that's pretty standard for eating out in the City.

Sadly the restaurant was empty on the thursday lunchtime I visited. However, the food was excellent and would rival any high end restaurant in Mumbai, Delhi or anywhere else I have eaten in my many visits to India, the food was freshly cooked and well spiced. I will definitely visit again.

The Smithfield Tandoori is the best curry house in London which can be easily missed due to it's location - they were moved about 18 mths ago as part of the Crossrail development. The owner of the restaurant always comes to have a friendly chat and the food is delicious. They also have a great wine selection. Although the restaurant is often quiet I will always recommend The Smithfield Tandoori for curry in London

It's a good enough restaurant for the area but not worth a special trip. Food was tasty but a bit tight on the amount of meat you get. The staff were very friendly except one waiter who told us off for ordering extra things as he had to keep walking back to the kitchen. Didn't realise it was such a burden on him. I would have given full marks for the service otherwise.

Great restaraunt, excellent wine and very nice staff. We did order the hottest item on the menu, the Lamb, which was beautiful and tender with a great sauce but it wasn't hot! We did point this out to the staff though.
