L'Absinthe

About L'Absinthe

L’Absinthe is the delightful and affordable neighbourhood French bistro cum wine shop that every steak frites loving Francophile dreams about. Located off the beaten path on Chalcot Road in London’s Primrose Hill, L’Absinthe is the brainchild of Jean-Christophe Slowik – a protégée of Marco Pierre White. Everything from the ebullient welcome to the blackboard menus and candlelit tables is just perfection, and we haven’t even started on the food yet. With pâté de campagne, cornichons and petite salade for starters, rabbit casserole with mustard mash for main course, and Absinthe crème brulée for dessert, any Gallic gastronomer will be in heaven. Popular with arty Primrose Hill types and their agents, this bijou local gem offers a little slice of back-streets London life for holiday makers seeking out an authentic neighbourhood dining experience. The wine list is genuinely impressive and unbelievably affordable, making L’Absinthe one of our favourite little London haunts.

Had a great evening at L'Absinthe in Primrose Hill. The food was excellent with large portions. I had the Tolousse sausages which were delicious and perfect on a cold winters evening. The staff very friendly and chatty.

I dined at L'Absinthe in Primrose Hill, North London for the first time in January 2012. The atmosphere is intimate and cosy. The food was good quality traditional french country style. I had toulouse sausages with lyonnaise potatoes - well cooked and tasty. My felow diners both has steak frites and said the steaks were tender and perfectly cooked. The prices are reasonable for the area amnd the wine list extensive and moderately priced. The service was attentive and friendly. I will go back.
