Sonny's

About Sonny's

Aside from living in one of London’s loveliest and leafiest corners, Barnes locals have something else to boast about: Sonny’s restaurant. Long a local favourite with southwest Londoners, Sonny’s restaurant serves up mouth-watering British cuisine in a white walled, airy and elegant space decorated with a constantly changing collection of modern art. Owned by Rebecca Mascarenhas (who also owns the critically acclaimed Kitchen W8), it is invariably full of affluent locals; evenings and Sunday lunch are particularly popular here. The menu is full of classic British food, though the emphasis on fresh, seasonal produce means it’s constantly changing. Expect some tough choices: crab raviolo or chicken liver parfait; wild mushroom fricassee or slow cooked pig cheeks; and chocolate fondant with cherries or a La Fromagerie cheese plate. The wine list, too, is well-chosen and extensive. Luckily staff are attentive and well-informed, all the better to make potentially tricky decisions a snap.

Lovely food, ok service from waitress one seemed slightly uninterested. The person in charge was very helpful and had good attention to detail. Food was of a very good standard and we will definitely going back. Very smart interior good for client lunches, but watch out for the amount of children during the weekend.

Sonnys, Barnes - Good food in aesthetically pleasing restaurant. Portions were quite small and service a little bit slow.

We booked Sonny's for our tenth wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a special evening. We arrived slightly earlier than our reservation and had a drink in the bar. Over an hour later, we were still waiting for our order to be taken. Apparently, the kitchen was "stressed" because a table of 12 had ordered before us. The restaurant was otherwise fairly quiet, so we were surprised to be told this. When our food did arrive, it was delicious and worth the wait.

Had a meal at Sonny's in Barnes, South West London, yeterday evening. As we walked in was immediately impressed by the buzz , clatter and hum of a happening place. We were given a table without a tablecloth which signified we were in the cafe bit and so weren't quite in the heart of the restaurant, but overall, it was all good though a bit overpriced. The waitress was beaming all night, even though she forgot our side order. She confessed that it was her first night; we wouldn't have known.
