Upstairs Restaurant

About Upstairs Restaurant

Upstairs Restaurant is a chic, unpretentious restaurant tucked away upstairs in a Victorian corner house on Brixton's Acre Lane. With soft colours, open fires, reclaimed wooden floors and leather banquettes, Upstairs Restaurant has the ambience of an intimate local supper club. Frequented by low-key celebs and designers, the understated restaurant was recently awarded the seal of approval from Michelin with a Bib Gourmand. Upstairs is ideal for discreet meals and private parties, with a bar located on the first floor. The short, Francophilic menu changes fortnightly - but signature dishes include grilled sardines with provencal vegetables; steak tartare and melon with port; and the traditional English apple crumble.

I'd read somewhere that Upstairs, Brixton has an air of the speakeasy about it. And that's certainly what I thought as we ascended the narrow stairs to the dining room on the second floor, having had to press a bell outside to be let in. Staff were friendly & attentive, never hovering but quick to whisk empty glasses & plates away (maybe a little too quick). Every dish was carefully explained, beautifully presented & delicious. I would've liked more choice of wines by the glass. Fab evening

What a little gem in Brixton! From start to finish the whole experience was faultless, from the food to the setting and service. The waiters explained the menu without being patronising about it, we weren't rushed and were able to buy wine by the carafe even though not specified on the menu. As noted by other reviewers the portions are tiny, but after 3 courses, wine and coctails I was plesantly full. Go after dark to take advantage of the candle lit ambience. Great for special occasions.

Really nice place and service. The food is also good but nothing wow! The cocktails (in particular the Helsinki Lifter) must be tried

Very pleasant experience indeed. Relaxed, friendly and efficient service, and one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Wish we'd checked it out years ago! £145 for 3 courses for 2, plus shared cheese, 2 cocktails, bottle of wine, and two glasses of red with the cheese.
