Madsen Restaurant

About Madsen Restaurant

With its minimalist designer interior and glossy crowd straight from Scandinavian central casting, Madsen is an arty restaurant ideal for business lunches, shopping pit-stops and evening meals with a Nordic twist. Situated on the Old Brompton Road, the super-sleek dining room is dressed up with whitewashed walls, blonde wood flooring and iconic PH5 lamps by Poul Henningsen. The restaurant was recently awarded its first AA Rosette and attracts an upmarket crowd of Scandinavian ex-pats, art auctioneers and trustafarians. The main lunchtime attraction is Smørrebrød – a Danish open sandwich made with rye bread and toppings such as smoked salmon and dill mayonnaise. Traditional main courses include the stegt flæsk med persille - thick fried bacon slices with parsley béchamel sauce and pickled beetroot.

Madsen is tucked away near South Kensington Tube station. Doesn't look like much from the outside but great Scandinavian food and service.

Madsen in London was very close to the museums which was handy. The food was nicely prepared but choice was very limited. Everything was served with bread which put us off having a starter - we didn't want bread with two courses. The pork and veal meatballs were nice but the salmon in the gravlax had quite a strong flavour which became too much. An expensive way to have an open sandwich for lunch.

Very nice Saturday brunch at Madsen. Tasty food, although service was slow (perhaps because of the large table of 12 next to us).

We all chose the early evening menu with a choice of two items for starters, main and desert (two or three courses). All our meals were delicious and we would recommend others to eat there. The Restaurant currently has scaffolding obscuring the front, however, it is very close to South Kensington tube station and ideally located for either the Museums or the Royal Albert Hall.

Madsen in London SW7 has Scandinavian cool in the décor mixed with friendliness and warmth from the waitresses. A reasonably priced if unexcitedly spiced set menu - starters and desserts were more adventurous. The akvavit certainly hit the spot!
