toptable Dining Awards 2009 - Runner Up: Best Over £45. The Square restaurant in London's ultra-smart Mayfair has four right angles: great food, wines, service, and location. The dining room is a refined space where you can seal a deal, celebrate a triumph, or simply dine incredibly well. Chef/owner Philip Howard has earned a pair of Michelin stars for his unique French-inspired haute cuisine using impeccable ingredients to create dishes capable of both gossamer elegance and vivid boldness all in the same bite. Everything is superb, though we particularly recommend the herb-crusted saddle of lamb with shallot puree, artichokes, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The Square's wine list - wine bible, really - runs to 80 pages of the world's finest.

The Square on Bruton Street gave us a fabulous mix of precision, surprise, intensity and service - fully deserving of its2 stars. Will definitely return
The Square remains an oasis of classy food, impeccable service and an amazing wine list. We had the tasting menu which is not cheap but each course was as always beautiful judged and flavored and sometimes deceptively simple. The wine list is astonishing and good value for a 2 star joint. There were perhaps less city types than usual in attendance which makes the atmosphere better and this restaurant at least seems to be coping with the dreaded crunch.

The Square never fails to impress.
The food and the service at the Square very good and the evening on the whole was a very pleasant experience. The only thing that let it down for me was the ambiance, felt that in just didn't have the intimacy that I desire when going out for a meal for two, ceiling too high and room to open in my opinion.
Still saying that I had a great night.
