About Brasserie Roux

Inspired by Albert Roux, Brasserie Roux is situated at 8 Pall Mall in an extraordinary double-height space, formerly the banking hall of Cox & King Bank. The one hundred-seat brasserie offers classic French brasserie cuisine in an atmosphere of informal elegance. The design theme throughout the brasserie focuses on a young rooster - the coat of arms of the building's former owners, Cox and Kings, and the symbol of France. The interior designer, Pierre-Yves Rochon, has created an elegant atmosphere with buttercup yellow walls and contemporary furniture upholstered in dark green and red fabric. Three 15ft arched windows dressed with matching pale yellow and white American blinds overlooking Pall Mall and Waterloo Place help create a stunning spacious yet refined area in which to enjoy honest Brasserie Cuisine created by one of the world's most famous chefs. The hotel has been awarded two AA rosettes, the highest accolade for high standards of cuisine, which ensures entry into the AA Restaurant Guide. The Restaurant offers a variety of different menus: a Weekly Menu at £24.50 for 3 courses including 2 glasses of wine; and two Pre-Theatre options: 3 courses for £15, or 3 courses plus 2 glasses of wine for £20; Book directly on www.sofitelstjames.com

This was a disappointing experience. The four in our party each had cause to be unhappy. We chose simple foods from the main menu, and they were bland except for superlatively good chips. The service was very poor and unknowledgeable: one of us was challenged on her choice, the orders were delivered wrongly, choices were sold out - all four of us had cause to send food back. We will not be going back in a hurry. A pity, as it is a nice venue, conveniently located.

Brasserie Roux is an excellent prestgious venue that also offers value for money dining. The ambience is great and the quality of service as good. The food we chose was fine and we could not have asked for a better all-round experience.

Our meal at Brasserie Roux consisted of the theatre special three course option. This represented fantastic value for money and the service was second to none. Only criticism would be the pricey wine list (around £8 by the glass, £30+ per bottle for an average quality wine)

Finding a well-rated restaurant around Piccadilly for 11, including a toddler/child menu, high chair and 2 coeliacs was chellenging, but Brasserie Roux met all those criteria. The food and wine were superb, however the service wasn't as slick as I'd expected despite it only being a third full - my sister and her family left at 7.50pm for their booked train without even ordering dessert (despite having a 5.30pm reservation) and we'd needed a couple of drinks reminders too. Stunning food though!
