About Imli Restaurant

Winner of the 'Best Indian Restaurant in UK 2007 Award'- Cobra Good Curry Guide.

Created by the team behind Tamarind Restaurant, recently launched Imli stems from an excellent family tree, serving Indian tapas style food at affordable prices. Located in the heart of Soho, Imli is ideal for pre-and post theatre dinner as well as being perfect for just popping in for a quick bite any time of the day. The bold dining room is decked out in fiery colours, creams and dark woods, a relaxing backdrop to mirror the traditional-shakes-hands-with-modern-day ethos that seems to surround the restaurant. The innovative cooking of our head chef, Samir Sadekar, has led him to be nominated for the 'National Best dish of 2006' award by Restaurant Magazine.

From the same team as the distinguished and one of only three Michelin starred Indian restaurants Tamarind, comes this ode to casual and modern subcontinental dining. The menu emphasises sharing so dishes are allocated small portions a la tapas style. Thankfully, prices are equally on the small side. Kick off with mushroom tikkki which comprises whole button mushrooms in crumb with a tomato garlic sauce and beautifully rendered. Fruit chaat though with seasonal fruits, sweet potato and socalled ginger dressing, is a total misfire submerged as it is in cumin. The seafood platter with peppered squid, fish cake and sesame garlic prawns works to much better effect with only a hint of spice thus leaving the individual fish flavours to come shining through. The chicken dhungar with its promised smoked tomato and fenugreek sauce delivers no such smoky taste and is instead akin to a generic chicken curry albeit competently executed. Feast your eyes then on the excellent dals (lentils) and the first rate rice and breads. Oh, and dont miss the fig and ginger ice cream. Overall, a decent entry on the contemporary Indian restaurant scene though it wont set the world on fire!

From the team behind the renowned Michelin-starred Tamarind, Imli has introduced London to an exciting new style of Indian cuisine. This fantastic Indian Tapas restaurant is perfect for either a quick lunch or a full-on feast. It's also the ideal way to introduce the kids to more exotic tastes. The special children's menu features lightly spiced dishes like Masala Grilled Chicken followed by Mango Sorbet. During school holidays kids can eat for half price, so bring the whole family for a taste sensation that won't break the bank!

New reviews coming soon

The Imli offer on the Tasting Menu plus dessert plus wine is very good value, but if I must make one criticism then I would say that the portions were small and I can't say I was totally satisfied after the meal. The food was good however, just not quite enough.

Must say that the restaurant was very buzzy - as you'd expect for Wardour Street. Fun atmosphere!

WOW! loved Imli. boyfriend and I had the 2 4 1 offer. a great range of dishes, loved that we didn't have to pick and choose ourselves - the dishes we were served complimented each other beautifully and we got to try dishes we wouldnt usually choose. food came out very quickly, full of flavour and presented really well. i agree with one of the reviews below however - the naan bread was poor! everything else was top quality, not your usual indian restaurant & I would definitely go back again

I tried the tasting menu. The starters were good, but the mains were pretty ordinary. The nan bread was the worst i've ever tasted in my life. Great value with the 2-for-1 offer. I am hoping they will change the tasters menu options in future.

Visted Imli on a Tues evening so not much atmosphere however we were here for the food! Redeemed my award points-3 courses from a limited choice but food tasty & loved the mango & basil sorbet. Date had the tasting platter/dessert/half bottle of wine for £18.50 which is extremely good value. A chance to try a good variety of dishes, small but very satisfying. Great thing was food was not oily like Indian takaways. Highly recommended!
