St. John Bread and Wine
About St. John Bread and Wine
St. John Bread & Wine restaurant in London's trendy Spitalfields is the younger sibling of super chef Fergus Henderson's Michelin-starred restaurant in Smithfield, but it's a very different beast. St. John Bread & Wine was originally meant to be the offsite bakery for Henderson's first restaurant, but it rapidly became the place to come locally for superb breakfast and elevenses, lunch and supper, and from which to take home a freshly-baked loaf and a bargain bottle of French wine. The menu celebrates seasonal English ingredients and changes not only from day to day, but almost from hour to hour. The menu at 11am, for instance, is different from the one at 9am. The menu deals simply with its ingredients: brown crabmeat on toast, calf's liver and lentils, beef and kidney pie for two. The entirely French wine list ranges from day-before-payday to major celebration level. At St. John Bread & Wine, the décor is Spartan, with tiled floor, open kitchen, bare tables, but the conviviality is contagious.

it's great food and service as always. I'll come back there for sure soon.
After reading so much about this restaurant, we were very excited to sample nearly everything on the menu! However, a word of warning - dont be overzealous when ordering meat, the vegetables were actually the winners of the menu. All meats were SUPER salty so 4 small meat dishes left us gasping for water. Atmosphere here is minimal and service average, but thats not really what you come for. All in all, glad we tried it, an interesting experience but plenty better restaurants in the area.
St. John Bread and Wine 94 - 96 Commercial Street, London, E1 6LZ Excellent service and very nice food.
First visit to St John. Loved the menu and simple concept. I'll be back.
St John Bread & Wine Commercial Street. Good location near Spitalfields. The food was nice and fresh. Value not the best but considering it's location this was fine. Service, 'indifferent'.
