Bbar

About Bbar

Bbar's South African-themed bar and restaurant in London's Victoria does a good trade in classy lunches, fine wines and fantastic cocktails. Here’s where you can dine out on springbok (on sweet potato mash, with bacon, lentils and mushroom sauce), or, if it’s lunchtime, Boerewors sausages. Having said that, the menu is predominantly Modern European. The SA options are simply particularly worth mentioning. Mike Myers’ photographs of big game, zebrano wooden table tops, leopardskin lampshades, and fake crocodile leather chairs coupled with enthusiastic, ever-smiling staff provide all the equatorial atmosphere you could wish for. Downstairs, a funky, laidback bar copes with the after-work overspill. Finally, a decent restaurant near Victoria Station.

Food is always very good at BBar but the service is VERY slow. At lunch you'd be lucky to get through in less than 1.5 hours (and that's just having a main course). Fine if you're not in a hurry.

This is a fun place and we enjoyed drinks at the (very crowded) bar beforehand, followed by an enjoyable meal. We were a big crowd in a noisy place, so not recommended for an intimate meal. Outstanding were the mussels, the t-bone steak and the shrimp pasta - really tasty. Less successful were the burgers which were overdone. All in all I would recommend it and will come again.

Bbar is always good for a quick, casual pre-theatre meal. The food was lovely, the wine was not over-prcied, and the service was reasonably good.
