  The second book of Bach's Well-Tempered Klavier is a step forward in modernity, making it perhaps even more remarkable than it's predecessor. Acclaimed keyboard player James Johnstone introduces and performs a selection from these exquisite masterpieces. An informal atmosphere is encouraged and drinks can be taken into the auditorium.

• Beethoven Study Day

  The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment's annual study day focuses on Beethoven's Symphonies. The 11am session looks at the historical context of the symphonies - the events, politics and culture of Beethoven's time, before going on to look at how Beethoven's music responded to the events around him. The 2pm session examines how a period instrument ensemble such as OAE performs Beethoven's music as well as looking at other approaches to it, and day ends with an in-depth analysis of Symphony No.3, Eroica. The morning session is suitable for everyone, no musical knowledge required, while for the afternoon session some musical knowledge would be beneficial.

  Rarely screened Russian silent thriller set in the seamy Jewish underworld of Odessa in the 1920s. Murder is a way of life for Benya and his gang. They profit from their criminal activities until the Russian Revolution when the local commissar gives them special responsibilities, making them part of the revolutionary movement. But this new post backfires for Benya as he finds himself ensnared in a Bolshevik trap.
