Toptable says about E Bar

Hmmm, e for easy? Excellent? Enticing? The e bar is just what you want if what you want is seriously smart cocktails in a trendy, modern setting accompanied by authentic Spanish tapas superbly presented. The chef, Barry Tonks, has probably cooked some of your most memorable meals at other high-regarded eateries (Putney Bridge, The Landmark) and is here adding more lustre to his reputation for being a high-quality chef.

Try house cocktail of ginger cosmopolitan then tuck into anchovy fillets from Conservas Ortiz, and bittersweet pickled figs from El

Bierzo, and Salchichon de Vich from Cataluna, and coarse cut chorizo

picanta from Leon. Outside dining and good service.

Theres something shabbily charming about Warwick Avenue. That bohemian air, all those massive houses with peeling paintwork… If they found themselves a decent PR, they could market themselves as Londons Greenwich Village. Actually, before they do that, they need a few more decent eateries. There are the odd hidden jewels, such as Jasons fish restaurant on the canal and Red Peppers famous woodfired pizzas, but unless you know where to look, you might find yourself wandering hungrily around for a while. Which is where Enigma comes in. A lovely light and airy space with a great suntrap terrace area too. The menu is Modern European, albeit at the Mediterranean end of what that genre suggests. Our meal mixed brunch good Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on herb foccacia (£6.50) prepared with no hassle as a vegetarian dish and a lunch casoncelli, little raviolilike parcels filled in this instance with beef and pumpkin, served in a wild mushroom sauce. The dish was lighter than it sounds but packed a flavoursome punch. Service can be patchy. The first time was excellent but subsequent visits have been a little more haphazard. As always, thats annoying when youre in a rush but easier to forgive when just chilling over a late breakfast. The food though and strong bytheglass wine list makes Enigma just about worth the risk though.

The atmosphere and environment was very good, but the service was very slow. The food was okay, the set menu was very reasonable.

A thouroughly great evening. Shared tapas with a large group and a few drinks. Inexpeensive, quick and very tasty.

Very relaxed and good service. Nothing bad to say.

e-bar is such a lovely bar to chill out with your friends, have a good chat and a snack. Its more like being in someones lounge than a bar, with soft, classy music and great cocktails. What a shame though that we went pre-Christmas and it was really quiet, the following week they were expecting a deluge. Head here for a quiet Sunday before heading for a stroll along the local canals.
