Marlborough House
About Marlborough House
Marlborough House was built for Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. The brick building with rusticated stone quoins was designed by Christopher Wren and was completed in 1711. According to Pevsner the house was taken up by the Crown in 1817 and was used by members of the Royal Family until 1953 when Queen Elizabeth II donated it for use by the Commonwealth Secretariat. It is open for guided tours, which must be booked in advance.
