Polka Theatre

Polka Theatre is one of the few theatre venues in the country dedicated to children and young people. For the past 25 years, we have created and presented innovative and challenging theatre for young people. Our unique, child-centred building houses two performance spaces, a playground, a cafe, a small toyshop, exhibition areas and reading corners. In addition to our year round programme of productions, we also run a number of creative participatory activities, including after-school drama courses, and one-off holiday workshops in dance, drama and more.

I have this little sister Lola. She is small and very funny. Don't miss everyone's favourite brother and sister, Charlie and Lola, as they make their absolutely completely first ever stage appearance at Polka Theatre! The stars of the hit BBC TV series and books by Lauren Child will be brought to life by a magical mix of puppets, music and animation. 2-D and 3-D worlds collide in this brand new play, adapted from some of the freshest and funniest episodes. Will Lola ever tidy her messy room? Will Charlie get Lola to sleep, even though she is not sleepy and she will not go to bed.Brilliant Performance

Imagine it's bedtime. Imagine it's time to turn out the light. Imagine the moon outside, and the stars, bright. Imagine the flickering of a thousand candles, or the sparkle of a grand chandelier. Imagine being in a place that is made of light. Imagine how brilliant that would be. Combining live music, beautiful lighting, movement, and captivating imagery, Brilliant is the latest in a series of acclaimed projects made for the very young by Fevered Sleep, one of the UK's leading creators of theatre. 'One of the companies leading the way in children's theatre is Fevered Sleep, whose work is always touched by real imagination and a sense of wonder' The Guardian. This show has been specifically designed for pre-school children aged 3 and 4 and their accompanying adults. It is not suitable for children under this age; as the show is set around the theme of bedtime and light and darkness there are brief moments of darkness. The company has done a lot of research, involving children, and found that while children of 3 and 4 found the darkness exciting, younger children found it genuinely difficult to cope with. Equally Brilliant is not targeted at children who are any older, as they may not find the show holds their attention and therefore might not enjoy it. There is a world of difference between a child who is at school and a younger pre-school child. Having older children present can change the 'feel' of the audience and stop it being such a special tailored event for the audience for which it was intended.Shakers and Movers Workshop

Especially suitable for younger children, 'movement play' and creating music using a variety of percussive instruments.
