    The Brick Development Association (BDA) which represents the majority of the United Kingdom and Ireland’s clay brick and paver industries has organised a conference to dispel any misconceptions about using brick including cost, durability and environmental issues and why brick ticks all the boxes as a natural building material. This conference will be of benefit to everyone involved in the repair, maintenance and alteration of Brick buildings, including conservation officers, planners, surveyors, architects working in the historic field, local councillors, architectural students, the National Trust and English Heritage.

    To mark the 300th anniversary of the invention in 1712 of the Newcomen Engine – the first practical working steam engine - The Engineering Club will be hosting a lecture by Professor David Perrett, Immediate Past President of the Newcomen Society, on its impact of on engineering. The Society is named after Thomas Newcomen whose invention enabled the drainage of deep-level mines, thus leading to the great industrial and technological achievements of the modern age.
