The Day the Earth Caught Fire at Greenwich Picturehouse
Science Fiction & Fantasy Cinema10 Feb 2012 to 16 Feb 2012
In The Day the Earth Caught Fire ex-journalist Val Guest crosses the news story with the disaster movie. The film's hero reporter (Edward Judd) has to cover the disastrous consequences caused by the US and USSR nuclear test programmes. Whilst the film lacks the special effects of contemporary films, it offers pacy journalistic dialogue, a realistic London and an imaginative take on science-fiction's prophecies of doom.
