Welcome to Stoke Newington’s subterranean epicentre of cool: a 300-capacity basement hosting smallish gigs, screening and DJ sessions. For film nights, the place transforms into a proper movie house complete with free popcorn, while bands range from glam metal and grinding rock to low-fi acoustic. A late licence means the party doesn’t stop until the small hours.

The band is known for their revolving door membership, where they may start one tour with two members, and the next with upwards of twenty. Poppy and Friends is a three piece acoustic band. Poppy weaves off kilter tales of urban life, with the sweetest folk melodies.

In 1984 the band transplanted itself to Amsterdam which led to a shift in the original lineup, the original bassist Roland Callaway leaving at this time. The core members of the group are vocalist/songwriter/keyboardist Edward Ka-Spel and keyboardist Phil Knight. Their music touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music.
