About Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising
New to London's Notting Hill, the Robert Opie Collection has moved from Gloucestershire. Nostalgic and evocative, everyone's memories are here - childhood toys, favourite fashions and teenage magazines. Decade by decade, this fascinating story unravels from Victorian times, through austerity Britain to the swinging sixties. The museum contains 12,000 original items, from motorcars, music, television, holidays and entertainment to branded groceries, sweets and household goods. By walking through the museum's time tunnel you can trace changes in social taste and the evolution of graphic design, along with the development of marketing and advertising skills.

A Hiddem Gem
Tucked away in a corner of Notting Hill this museum is definitely worth a trip out of the city. It is only a couple of minutes walk from Portobello Road market and is packed with an amazing display of brands and products that you grew up with. From Victorian times to present day it is an impressive history of how products and the how they were marketed has developed. Every visitor will come to a point in the exhibition and say "I remember that".
At less than 15 minutes tube ride out of the west end it really is a fascinating collection well worth visiting.

Waste Not, Want Not
Exhibition22 Jan 2009 to 29 Nov 2009
During WWII Britain had to economise on raw materials, save on energy and salvage scarce commodities, encouraged by a powerful propaganda machine. Whether the message was to grow your own vegetables, make do and mend, or recycle paper, uppermost in everyones mind was the need to be sparing in the use of meagre resources. While few may now remember those years of rationing and blackouts, the lessons from the past can teach us how to make better use of limited resources today. This exhibition is part of the museums new initiative Packaging our Sustainable Future, sponsored by Tesco.
