Babur Restaurant

About Babur Restaurant

Open since 1985, this delightful, unpretentious restaurant in Forest Hill, London, is renowned for its stunning and innovative modern Indian cuisine. Babur's stylish, earthy interior features exposed brick walls, natural wooden furniture and beautiful handmade Bengali artworks. The intimate atmosphere and sensational staff have made Babur a favourite dining destination with Forest Hill locals, and the food is worth making a trip across town for. We highly recommend the spicy sardine fish cake stuffed with caramelised figs; sandalwood ostrich infused with fenugreek; and black cod in spices and mustard oil with mustard mash. The wine list, designed by Peter McCombie, is also superb and features 16 wines by the glass, and 34 bottles for under £20.

Despite living minutes away from Babur, I'd never been until this visit. I'm now left chastising myself for leaving it so long!! The food is like no curry house I've been to before; really interesting dishes including unusual (for SE London) meats like Ostrich and Rabbit. Because you can't choose your default option, say a madras or a vindaloo, you're given a far more interesting dining experience. One that I'll be repeating, very soon, depending on cashflow! ;-)

We visited Babur in Brockley to celebrate a family birthday. The food , as always, was top quality, distinctive and innovative. By far the best modern Indian restaurant in South-East London, one of the very best for any cuisine.

The food at the Babur (London, SE23) is always of a high quality, and this occasion was no exception. My only quibble was that the spinach was too rich, but this is my own subjective opinion. The service, though good, was at times a little overattentive (I really can pour my own wine and do not need to be reminded that my glass is empty.) In view of the prices, going to the Babur is definitely one for special occasions only.

Babur restaurant, Forest Hill Why it took us nearly 6 years since moving to this area to visit I don't know, but it sure won't be our last. Excellent food beautifully presented, with an unusually varied menu, this was a perfect venue for my husbands birthday meal. Excellent value as well, around £70 for the two of us with drinks. In short, a delightful evening with memorable food.
