The Crooked Well

About The Crooked Well

The Crooked Well is a quirky little restaurant located on Grove Lane in south east London. Close to Camberwel Green, this neighbourhood gem has bucket-loads of charm, and the menu is a celebration of British fare with a few specials from the Continent thrown in for good measure. Design buffs will love the eclectic interior – a mix of vintage tiles, plush banquettes, graphic wallpaper and comfy seating in orange, navy, lemon and duck egg blue. With plenty of candles and good old fashioned hospitality, the Crooked Well is a bonhomous space perfect for dates, dinner parties and luncheons. The menu is a down-to-earth and delectable collection of Brit classics with a modern twist, and we highly recommend the rabbit and bacon pie, the roast venison and the crème brûlée topped with vanilla shortbread. A much loved Camberwell haunt, the Crooked Well is a hip, under-the-radar dining destination.

Have been to the Crooked Well more than 10 times now and it has become our "local". Delicious, creative, British (and some French) cooking in a beautifully designed "rustic" space with live jazz on Sundays. Great service but can be a little rushed so ask your server to give you time between courses. Also, try and book as it is always busy and rightfully so!

As Camberwell locals, we've been to the Crooked Well a few times, and have usually really enjoyed it, but this time it was the best meal I think I've had there. The calf's liver was melt in the mouth delicious, with lovely crispy polenta (and I don't usually like polenta). My starter and pud were equally great. And my friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. Would recommend.

The Crooked Well in London was an excellent venue with very high quality food if a little on the pricey side.
