Toptable says about Benihana Restaurants - Swiss Cottage

In 1964 a new concept in luxury dining emerged on the fiercely competitive New York restaurant scene. Called Benihana of Tokyo, its food preparation methods immediately set it apart from other restaurants. Instead of being hidden away in a conventional kitchen, chefs prepared and cooked entrees at a table called a Hibachi Grill. This Swiss Cottage restaurant, traditional in design, was the first to open in the UK back in 1986. Steak and fish are a treat here, (especially the Benihana Special - an exciting combination of full-flavoured filet mignon and lobster tail) as is the cheery madness of the tableside chefs (count their fingers) wich encourages cross-table banter. During the sunny months, typically Japanese snacks such as tempura, temaki and sushi can be enjoyed in the relaxing garden area at the back of the restaurant. Benihana was recently top 5 family restaurants voted for by Time Out.

Hadn't been to Benhana for a few years so it was nice to rediscover it using the Top Table deal. The chef was great fun and we had a nice evening. Food was fine and impressively prepared in front of us, but not sure I'd pay the normal a la carte prices. Worth going at least once for the experience though.

The food and atmosphere at Benihana was great. Drinks not overpriced and food excellent and very filling. Not an ideal place for a dat as you sit round a table with people you do not know, but different and overall very worthwhile!!!

We went there for the £19 for 7 course which was worth it if you ordered the beef and prawns/black cod. Service was fair. Venue has become a kiddie place coz all tables had at least a kid there! Must try is the black sesame ice cream which was scrumptious!!! If you're daring the wasabi ice cream is worth to share.

BENIHANA SWISS COTTAGE.

The restaurant was very quiet which made the atmosphere a bit dull. Our waitress was very pleasant and polite but made lots of errors with the orders. "Our " chef Joseph was again polite and pleasant but seemed very inexperienced.

Overall it was a nice evening, average food and not too expenisive. The politenesss of the staff was impressive.
