Bistro Aix

About Bistro Aix

Bistro Aix, a sleek French bistro in London’s Crouch End, is not what you might expect to find along this bustling strip in Crouch End. Bistro Aix is one of north London’s top French bistros, highlighting the elegant simplicity of the world's best home-style cuisine in a delightfully romantic setting. The menu features a distillation of everyone’s favourite French classics from onion soup to pan-seared foie gras, from moules-frites to filet of beef bordelaise. The restaurant’s stock pots are always simmering, assuring the freshest, deepest, delicious sauces - the highlight of any French kitchen. Although predominantly Gallic, Bistro Aix’s chefs do sometimes borrow from other traditions - Italian, English, even American. Osso buco and fritto misto have become staples, while panettone bread pudding is often found on the winter menu. The bread, baked fresh daily, is always delicious, and the home-made puddings sit alongside a wonderful selection of cheeses.

We've been to Bistro Aix many times, and have always enjoyed it. Large menu with plenty of choice of typical bistro type dishes, good wine list, and a lovely French ambiance. The food is generally very good, though some dishes can be less successful. It has lots of character and we like it.

Outstanding food at Bistro Aix - the scallop starter was wonderfully intense, the foie gras completely brilliant - perfect searing; the osso bucco was to die for and the confit duck very good, although we found the mango puree accompaniment rather sweet and unnecessary. The puddings were lovely too. Ambiance very tasteful and restful - points for proper tablecloths and napkins! Service was attentive. Good selection of wines by the glass. Will definitely go back, hopefully several times.

We had not been to Bistro Aix in Crouch End for a while, but it did not disappoint. Friendly welcome, great atmosphere and fantastic, attentive service. We ate from the set menu which is fantastic value for money, but the a la carte menu has a few interesting dishes on it, so we will be back to try them out. Glad we returned, especially as we have moved away from the area, but it will be worth the trip.

We ate at Bistro Aix on Saturday night and had an excellent experience. The ambience is very romantic and is candle lit, the service is very laid back, without feeling neglected. We had 3 courses and each was well thought out and perfectly cooked. The meats are of a very high quality. I would especially recommend the Scallops and the Venison. We have lived a 2 minute walk from this restaurant for 2 years and yet had never noticed it. It's definitely a hidden gem and we will be returning.

Overall the food was good and the pricing wasn't too high. Only problem was there was an odd smell which arose from time to time. I wasn't sure if it was the waiter or if it was the cheeseboard.
