Bistro 1

About Bistro 1

Situated in the heart of Covent Garden, not far from Charing Cross, the Southampton Street location of Bistro1 is perfect for post-shopping pit-stops and pre-theatre meals. For hearty meals and an unpretentious vibe, Bistro1 is also a fun spot for office parties and lively nights out with groups of friends. The restaurant's service is super-friendly, but Bistro1's menu itself is the main attraction, crammed with old-fashioned favourites such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and chargrilled sardines. We love the pan-fried tuna steak with sautéed cherry tomatoes, garlic sauce and rice; the Mediterranean-style meat Moussaka with rice and salad; and the sticky and delicious homemade banoffee pie.

Bistro 1 Southampton Street, as I have said many, many times before, is astonishingly good value, provided you choose the excellent Turkish items, or anything where the basic materials are reasonably cheap. (Boeuf bourguignon looks like a school dinner, though I am told it is actually perfectly nice; sausage and mash is very good. The fish-cakes are overwhelmed with hollandaise sauce - ask to have it on the side.) All starters and puddings are good. Wine is cheap and pleasant.

Nice food, good value. Not seated quickly enough, despite booking on here. Food always arrives quickly so you don't have to wait long between courses.

Bistro 1 in Covent Garden is great! It's so cheap, and the food is really good. Not michelin star good, but for the price, you can't do much better. The service is really swift, which is brilliant for pre-theatre, and even at 5:45 it was absolutely RAMMED! Don't go here for a romantic meal, but for a quick, cheap, good quality dinner, you can't go wrong. £13 for 3 courses. Crazy!

Another busy night, but yet, attentive service still prevailed. Cod and beam dishes were fantastic in this non-stuffy, relaxed eater.

As usual faultless and very yummy! Excellent service, so quick when in a rush to the theatre! See you again next time!
