Lola & Simon

About Lola & Simon

This chic and cosy neighbourhood restaurant in Hammersmith, London, is run by a couple called Kirsten and Nico – not to be confused with their dogs Lola and Simòn who reside in Buenos Aires. Hailing from Argentina and New Zealand respectively, Nico and Kirsten have combined the best ingredients from their home countries to design an innovative menu at Lola Simòn that has proved a hit with Hammersmith locals. Favourite dishes include the Antipodean-style brunch; tender New Zealand lamb served with sweet potato and mint pesto; and an amazing Argentinian rib eye steak served with butternut purée. The dining room at Lola Simòn is 70s-style bistro-chic, and the new world wine list is fantastic and affordable.

Lola and Simon has a good atmosphere and tasty food

In general we thought Lola and Simon was a really nice small restaurant with good atmosphere. Some of the food was very good, such as the starter mussels which were beautifully served and the lamb shank. However one of our party had a beef dish which came topped with so much cheese it could have been a pizza! Somehow this failed to hit the mark. We also did not like the side dishes. Chips were not home made and green veg was overcooked and too salty. OK all in all though.

A week night dinner at Lola and Simon was a pleasant experience. We took our while to order but the wait staff was very patient and friendly. I enjoyed my dessert in particular. The gnocchi were tasty but quite heavy; more than one vegetarian main would be nice. My greatest disappointment is that the menu on the restaurant's website is out of date; it lists several dishes I was looking forward to trying which turned out to have disappeared from the menu and replaced with less exciting options.

I went to Lolo and Simon because I am staying nearby and because, as a carnivorous New Zealander, the NZ & Argentinian combination sounded great. Pluses - stunningly good mussels starter (i prefer plain more than sauce...but this was the best sauce ever tasted), outstanding house wines (if not cheap), lovely ambience and service. Negatives - steak was ok, but not up to my expectations of Argentinian beef (rather more fat than expected) and only comes with mash

Highly recommend. Lovely room, excellent atmosphere, top service attentive and informative and just the right level of attention given. Food very, very good and really moorish chips (not that you'd go just for the chips but they were surprisingly good hence worth the mention). It's a short, well thought out menu. I will return and am more than happy to recommend this restaurant to others.
