Toptable says about Bull and Last
On the corner of the Highgate Road and Woodsome Road, chances are you've walked past The Bull and Last countless times, imagining just another pub. But step inside and be treated to an inn with a passion for food. A pared down interior is in keeping with local tastes, the pub moving on from the good old days of horse brass excess. But once a drink or two have been sipped at the bar, head upstairs for food to what is a surprisingly restaurant-like ambience. This is no ordinary gastropub, you see. The menu is British with occasional French influences, put together with flair and a respect for 'real' food – Sunday lunches, particularly, are unmissable.

The Bull & Last is the perfect antidote to a slightly hungover Sunday and perfectly lives up to the hype it has created itself. The special scotch eggs as a bar snack are nothing short of amazing, the Sunday roasts looked great but all 4 of us opted for the fish and (triple cooked) chips - an excellent choice. Atmosphere downstairs was bustling and relaxed, upstairs was more sedate and had more elbow room! Looking forward to returning during the week to sample the rest of the menu.
Went to the Bull and Last on Saturday. As there was a private party on upstairs we(party of 6), had a table downstairs in the bar next to the toilets - not a good corner and quite noisy! The service was quick and very friendly - nice staff. The food on the whole was very good. Great skate and excellent chips. The oysters however were very meagre. Would return but would make sure that the table wasn't anywhere near the toilets!!!
Really enjoyed Saturday lunch in here. Excellent choice of food, lovely buzzy atmosphere and good service.Started with own-made charcuterie - an impressive dish ideal for sharing. All portion sizes are generous. The bar snacks – sausage roll with black pudding, Scotch eggs and wasabi peas are firmly in the gourmet bracket. The fat double-cooked chips are fantastic.
Children are welcome and indeed it was packed with children when we arrived. Surpisingly dogs are also welcome. Will return soon.
Attentive, caring service -- great lunch menu -- exceptional food -- mainly from local producers. Great ambiance and a toasty warm fire. What more can you ask for on a rainy lunchtime.
Just one gripe about the loos -- one of the taps on the handbasin was broken.
Perfect hearty pub food for after a chilly walk on Hampstead Heath. The scotch eggs are AMAZING! Will definitely be back
