The Brown Dog
About The Brown Dog
The Brown Dog pub and restaurant really does epitomise the term ‘hidden gem’. Tucked away on a back street in the glorious London neighbourhood of Barnes, this gastropub is one of the area’s best kept secrets, locals in the know less than keen to divulge its location lest they lose their table. A typical pub with added contemporary charm thanks to bistro style touches – copper lampshades, distressed wood panelling, reclamation style country furniture and terracotta-potted plants on tables – The Brown Dog has a laid back Sunday-ish atmosphere at every hour throughout the week, bringing a little relaxed indulgence to even the wickedest of Tuesdays. Dog and child friendly, The Brown Dog is a perfect place for family dining but is equally upmrket enough to entertain a business client or to enjoy a romantic dinner for two. The menu changes seasonally to reflect the best of the fresh, with ingredients sourced from top-notch suppliers (see also The Brown Dog’s cask ales, bought in from the best local brewers), embracing both gastropub classic dishes done to high modern standards and continental offerings with an appropriate combination of rusticity and elegance.

A really wonderful experience from beginning to end. Very highly recommended! Booking ahead recommended.
Delicious food and pleasant service. Only complaint is that tables are very close together. Very friendly front of house.
very warm and friendly gastropub. standard gastto food but great atmosphere.
Always great
The Brown Dog in Barnes is a lovely neighbourhood pub - the food is simple but very good - quite 'masculine' gastro food e.g. fresh crab salad with chips but delicious. Not cheap but you get a very friendly welcome - service was a bit slow on the bank holiday but suspect that isn't the norm.
