Zizzi - Marylebone

About Zizzi - Marylebone

Italian restaurant chain Zizzi opened the doors of its very first branch in London's Chiswick in 1999. Now there are over 100 branches, all decorated in an appealing contemporary style. Wood-fired ovens, open kitchens and modern interior design with locally influenced art features make for a vibrant atmosphere. As for the food, they serve up a variety of traditional Italian dishes including all the usual suspects: salads, antipasti, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto as well as fish and meat mains and desserts. What Zizzi really pride themselves on is sourcing good quality ingredients; salads are dressed with white balsamic vinegar from Modena, for example, and offer Goddess Olives, a variety known for their firm flesh and nutty flavour. The modestly priced wine list is dominated by Italian wines, starting at £13.45 for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. London's Wigmore street branch is right behind Oxford Street, providing a perfect excuse for some retail therapy … or is it the other way around?

OK lunch at Zizzi - Marylebone. Food was average. My pasta tasted good but was cold. My colleague's pizza looked good. Inexpensive. Service was poor and inattentive, although to be fair they were very busy.

Zizzi's on Wigmore Street was more than accomodating for our large group - 14 of us in total. Food and service were both good.

This branch of Zizzi was very busy just before Christmas but we were seated and attended to immediately at a convenient table. Despite the crowd and music it was not too noisy and we were able to converse easily. The young staff were constantly on-the-go serving and clearing tables : our waitress in particular was most pleasant and attentive. The food was well cooked with fresh ingredients but very much the standard Italian fare to be seen anywhere. As a pre-theatre meal, it was fine.

On this occasion there were several large parties which made the place very noisy and service very slow. Otherwise, Christmas menus were good value and food is always good.
