Zizzi - Aldwych

About Zizzi - Aldwych

Italian restaurant chain Zizzi opened the doors of its very first branch in London's Chiswick in 1999. Now there are over 100 branches, all decorated in an appealing contemporary style. Wood-fired ovens, open kitchens and modern interior design with locally influenced art features make for a vibrant atmosphere. As for the food, they serve up a variety of traditional Italian dishes including all the usual suspects: salads, antipasti, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto as well as fish and meat mains and desserts. What Zizzi really pride themselves on is sourcing good quality ingredients; salads are dressed with white balsamic vinegar from Modena, for example, and offer Goddess Olives, a variety known for their firm flesh and nutty flavour. The modestly priced wine list is dominated by Italian wines, starting at £13.45 for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. This branch is right on London's The Strand and, being in the heart of theatreland, is appropriately decorated with theatre imagery.

Dinner at Zizzi Aldwych was memorable for all the wrong reasons, mix up with the booking, extrememly slow service, restrictive set menu with most choices 'sold out'. Would not go in a large group again but may be OK for lunch if in the area as the food was still up to their usual standard.

We had dinner at Zizzi on the Strand before a theatre show. The restaurant was busy for 6pm so we were pleased to have booked. Despite our waiter's best efforts to chase up our food, it was quite slow in arriving so we pushed for time. Overall though, Zizzi's menu will cover all tastes and the food is generally good.

Zizzi in Aldwych, London. Great atmosphere, excellent food, and good service. Choice of wines could have been a little better, but would definitely go back!
