Fox and Grapes

About Fox and Grapes

The newly refurbished Fox and Grapes has the feel of a country village pub, despite its southwest London location - right on the edge of the Common in Wimbledon. The Fox and Grapes has reopened with Claude Bosi, head chef of the two Michelin starred Hibiscus in Mayfair, and his brother Cedric at the helm. Two French brothers opening a village pub serving traditional British food may sound incongruous, but they insist the local pub is the British equivalent of the French bistro – with a welcoming atmosphere and good food. As for the food, the aim is to use as much seasonal and local produce as possible, and simple, high quality cooking. The menu features hearty dishes with classic flavour combinations like crispy pork belly with stuffed apples and Herefordshire cider, as well as traditional pub favourites like sausages and mash. Open for drinks throughout the day, Fox and Grapes stocks a wide selection of beers and ales, some of them even brewed in London. On top of all this, if you enjoy yourself a little too much and can't face the journey home, there are also three king-sized bedrooms available.

We went to the Fox and Grapes on a Sunday night so it was fairly quiet. I had the confit of lamb which was very enjoyable and the pear tarte tatin which was delicious. Service was attentive. A little pricey but would certainly go back again.

Very good upgrade of an old pub. The food was good but very overpriced and the service was poor because the servers were rather over-stretched. At £65 per head I expect better.

Not as good as our first visit but still very competent. The scotch egg is a must, the steaks disappointed slightly compared to past fare. Still an all around pleasure.

Good food and service, a bit pricey but would go again for a special treat and maybe of an evening, a bit noisey with children running about which made it hard to catch up with my friend!.

Despite some concern at the negative reviews I was pleasantly surprised by the Fox and Grapes. Maybe its good to have slightly lower expectations as if you see it for what it is - a nicer than average restaurant in a lovely location, its actually worth the money.
