Fox and Grapes
About Fox and Grapes
The newly refurbished Fox and Grapes has the feel of a country village pub, despite its southwest London location - right on the edge of the Common in Wimbledon. The Fox and Grapes has reopened with Claude Bosi, head chef of the two Michelin starred Hibiscus in Mayfair, and his brother Cedric at the helm. Two French brothers opening a village pub serving traditional British food may sound incongruous, but they insist the local pub is the British equivalent of the French bistro – with a welcoming atmosphere and good food. As for the food, the aim is to use as much seasonal and local produce as possible, and simple, high quality cooking. The menu features hearty dishes with classic flavour combinations like crispy pork belly with stuffed apples and Herefordshire cider, as well as traditional pub favourites like sausages and mash. Open for drinks throughout the day, Fox and Grapes stocks a wide selection of beers and ales, some of them even brewed in London. On top of all this, if you enjoy yourself a little too much and can't face the journey home, there are also three king-sized bedrooms available.

The food at the Fox and Grapes (though pricey) did not disappoint. Service generally good. One waiter was annoyed at us arriving 20 minutes early. With a buggy in tow, we had no choice but to wait outside - a reflection of how many people they try to cram in. Not sure if this is just a Sunday lunchtime issue... I would go again for the food. The banana and peanut bread and butter pudding and the sweet lasagne with citrus fruits were the highlights on our table.
This place is overpriced for the service but the food is very good.
Fox and Grapes, Wimbledon Common. Although a quaint gastropub and in a nice spot, they dont point out that the 3 courses for £19.50 a) doesnt include wine and b) is a menu selection of 1 of 2 starters, mains and desserts. My partner does not eat dairy and they were unwilling to change any of the set menu items for her! What was going to be a nice £40 meal ended up being £80+. Nice place but unless they get their advertising right you wont see me back - False advertising left a sour taste!
We really enjoyed our low key dinner at the Fox and Grapes last Tuesday. The special offer menu was very limited but delicious all the same, as was the wine! Service was great too. We'll definitely be back soon!
Service good, food slightly unusual, great atmosphere just off the common
