Mon Plaisir
About Mon Plaisir
For more than half a century, a little piece of the capital has been proudly French too - Mon Plaisir restaurant on Covent Garden’s Monmouth Street is famous as London’s longest-serving French restaurant. Is it romantic? Well, dozens, maybe hundreds, of marriage proposals have taken place here as well as countless first dates, third dates and anniversary celebrations. Acquired by the Viala brothers in the 1940s, Mon Plaisir has gone from strength to strength, entertaining a who’s who of London society with its uniquely French charm. Four rooms with different looks make up Mon Plaisir – from the main dining room, unchanged since the 40’s, to the lounge with its pewter-topped bar rescued from a Lyonnais brothel. From the utterly traditional, to the conceptual and modern, Mon Plaisir restaurant’s French menu explores in depth France’s world-famous cuisine with a panache more often seen on the streets of Paris.

A very enjoyable meal. We had the theatre menu which is excellent value. Even though we were supposed to vacate the table by 8pm there was no pressure put on us to leave until much later.
I had lunch with an old friend yesterday at Mon Plaisir, Monmouth Street, Covent Garden. The booking had been properly noted and although we arrived separately, and slightly early,we were shown to a nice table in a light and airy upstairs room. The service was excellent, even though the restaurant was busy. We had different items from the set lunch, which were all delicious despite the fairly limited options, and we were not rushed away and felt at ease to have coffee and a long awaited chat .
An excellent venue. Perfect for an intimate dinner. Good food and wine, reasonably priced and a friendly service. Highly recommended.
Just the most romantic and ambient french restaurant in London. The food is pricey but it is classic french and absolutely delicious. I recommend the Hare as a main and the Cheeseboard for desert.
A very pleasant buzzy atmosphere.
