Silka

About Silka

Silka's unprepossessing doorway hard by the entrance to Borough Market doesn't give the true flavour of the delights that wait within. The basement restaurant is decorated in a modern, minimalist style in keeping with the sophisticated mix of clientele it attracts. The Indian menu features low-fat, healthful foods skilfully prepared with dishes geared to make you feel light and energized or calm and chilled out. Lots of people drop in for one of their lunchtime platters or to grab a power lunch box to enjoy out in the sunshine. The Ayurvedic dishes with choice of lamb, chicken, prawn or veg are very popular. If you're seeking long-time favourites, check out the Simply Indian choices like chicken tikka masala or

lamb rogan josh. More adventurous souls should dip into the Showbites, where East meets West in dishes like shank of lamb braised in ginger and garlic paste. Silka is another winning entry in the groovy SE1 dining stakes.

I've eaten here loads of times and always been impressed by food and service. Unfortunately this time around the service was dreadful. There was only myself and my friend and one other small group of men in at lunch time and we had to wait 20 minutes just to be served, despite asking if we could order, twice! One of the waiters was miserable too which didn't help. I hope this is a one off as I do really enjoy the food here!

As always a first rate meal and great service. One of my favourite Indian restaurants in London.

I ate here with a friend - we arrived when it was nice and quiet and by the time we left it was packed. Nice menu, food very good, glad we ate earlier though as too noisy later on and as it's in a basement with artificial lighting it's not a great place to relax after work. Service very friendly and efficient - useful place to know of near London Bridge/Borough Market.
