Toptable says about Elche Restaurante de Tapas

Elche Restaurante de Tapas may sound somewhat exotic a place for Leytonstone, but that's because it's a Spanish restaurant named after the Lady of Elche, an ancient Iberian sculpture. As colourful on the inside as it is on the outside, this charismatic place serves a generous range of good value hot and cold tapas, many of them vegetarian. Specials include crab claws in bread crumbs, and house salad.

The best night to go is Friday night when flamboyant flamenco is performed from 8.45pm. Apparently, to really appreciate this ancient Spanish art you must be in an intimate setting with good friends, food and wine. Sounds good to us.

New reviews coming soon

Elche, Sunday buffet was great value, good choice of food and pudding included in price. Their Sangria is superb.

Its been years since I have been to Elche and other the reviews I wanted to take my friend there. I must say the waiter was very lovely and the place has character and I did feel it was wecloming. The starters ordered was not to our taste and the chicken tapas was terrible - it was like boiled skinned chicken with a few shavings of herbs on it. The main course was a bit better but for the price it was not a place I would recommend. Plus the bill was over £50 for two people for two courses.

The crab claws are fantastic, a must have on their menu!

The staff at Elche were nice and friendly but also professional, the food was very tasty, especially the crab claws and mussels. The drinks were a pretty standard price but the Sangria was very nice. The toilets were a disappointment as they were cold and tacky but the decor of the rest of the restaurant was nice with oak beams and paintings. As it is a bit tucked away I would really only recommend it to Leytonstone residents.

I had a very early meal, I was alone, and the restaurant was almost empty, which may have affected my perception of it. The decor is rather "70's Italian", with lots of glaring white artex and fake beams. It was also very brightly lit. Food not outstanding, but not at all bad, with very generous portions - the three tapas included in the offer, plus garlic bread, were ample for one. The house wine was pleasant. Service was a bit joyless, and could have been more attentive. Not top notch but OK.
