Bevis Marks

About Bevis Marks

Widely considered to be the best kosher dining room in London, the Bevis Marks restaurant is located on the road of the same name close to the UK’s oldest synagogue in the capital’s Square Mile. Appealing not only to Jewish gourmands but to anybody who appreciates good food, Bevis Marks has been recommended by everybody from Hardens to Zagat and Michelin, not to mention the city’s most in the know eaters, for its combination of specialty Jewish favourites – who could resist a starter of chicken soup with matzo balls? – and other dishes prepared and cooked in accordance with kashrut. The notable wine list meanwhile includes bottles from Israel’s Golan Heights as well as other fantastic worldwide labels. Sleekly styled in monochrome, Bevis Marks’ dining room has an upmarket, slightly masculine feel ideal for business diners as well as for the more special of meals, the outside courtyard space is ideal for al fresco summer dining.

Bevis Marks, new venue is good.

This was a treat especially for my friend who wanted to visit Bevis Marks and experience a meal in a kosher restaurant. The meal was generally good as was the service. There are sadly too few kosher restaurants in the centre of London, so this one that provides well-presented food in lovely surroundings is most welcome; this appears to be born out by the busy lunchtime activity.

The Bevis Marks Restaurant in Algate is very nice, quite small, and provides a useful option in a part of town where there are no other kosher restaurants. The food was lovely, but the kosher 'overhead' in terms of price is hefty - I reckoned we paid 30% more than for equivalent food in a non-kosher restaurant (£43 per person including a non-alcoholic drink and coffee, main course and dessert). Good service, though they might have taken my drinks order while I was waiting for my dinner guest...
