Kenza

About Kenza

A rich and luxuriant dining experience awaits visitors to Kenza, a Middle Eastern restaurant in the bustling Aldgate area of the City of London. Exotic charm is found in every corner of Kenza, where sumptuous fabrics, plump cushions, intricately carved wood, jewel like colours and the aroma of incense and rose petals evokes the atmosphere of the Arabic countries of the Middle East and the Maghreb in a cosily romantic lantern lit room. Owned and run by the team behind equally well thought of London restaurants Levant and Pasha, Kenza combines decadent relaxation with a lively carnival atmosphere achieved with the nightly arrival of glamorously jewelled scarf-waving belly dancers. The Kenza menu contrasts the traditions of Arabic cookery with the style and lightness of contemporary European approaches, dishes featuring complex spicing, bold flavours and subtle scents but also understated touches of sophistication. Of course as is the Middle Eastern tradition Kenza’s cuisine is ideal for sharing, adding to the laid back, party vibe of the restaurant.

Kenza, nr Liverpool St. Having read some truly awful reviews on another site, I was worried. But we had a great evening. The winterfeast mezze were plentiful and tasty. The main course was a choice of vegetarian or not, but we all enjoyed it. The dessert arrived, a cake stand of dishes of sweet bits and pieces with a very generous fruit platter with grapes, a peach, melon, pineapple, an orange, more grapes. We left quite a lot, which is a shame! But cover charge was unexpected.Great decor.

Kenza was a perfect choice for a snowy evening: the warm colours and Middle-Eastern vibe make for an opulent yet cosy atmosphere. Service was friendly and attentive, the food on the set £21 menu was plentiful and delicious and there was a good choice of unusual cocktails. The only gripe was that when the bellydancers came out all conversation had to be suspended for ten minutes or so while the music was turned up to deafening levels. It's a small point though and we would definitely book again.

Kenza: Great food, amazing ambiance, comedy service. Walking through the doors of Kenza is like being transported to another country. I absolutely love what thay have done with the decor and I love the food too! But a 15 minute wait for two beers when the bar area is empty is not cool. Being told it's table service when there are no table servers is not cool. Asking for a drink and being told to "Calm down we'll get to you" is not cool. I'll be back... just not when i'm thirsty! :-)
