Khan's of Kensington

About Khan's of Kensington

Khan's of Kensington restaurant in London’s South Kensington just a few steps from the tube station has developed a core of devotees over the years, from household names to lesser mortals, who delight in its slightly modern take on North Indian cuisine. The colonial ambience is very relaxed, pleasant, and its bijou dining room has an intimate feel. This is a great choice for pre-Albert Hall or taking the family after a visit to one of the big museums over the road. Some Khan’s of Kensington favourites - among many - are the fish coliwada, which is fried and marinated pomfret fish from Bombay, and the officer's chop of lamb in honey sauce. The tandoori’s and baltis are very popular, and if by chance you don't find your favourite on the menu, the kitchen is are happy to set that right, too. And Khan’s serves halal food, so you can dine with a clear conscience.

Standard Indian menu with excellent service. A good range of vegetarian dishes to choose from.

Khan's is a great little place conveniently next to South Kensington station. On a Friday night it was quiet and relaxed (though it was Good Friday) and the service was excellent - the waiters were very attentive and cheeky, which made a change. The menu wasn't quite as original as I had hoped but the dishes arrived quickly and were clearly freshly prepared. The food was tasty and attractive, though unexceptional. I'd definitely go back as it makes a change to all the chain restaurants nearby.

Tasty food, and good location, slightly let down by slow and dim-witted service, and a leaky toilet.

Not the best Indian meal I have ever eaten but certainly not the worst either. I had the lamb seek chat to start which to be honest was very little lamb and a lot of raw onion. The Malabar fish curry main course was much nicer and included plenty of fish. Overall not bad for the money (including 20% off before 6.30pm). My friend did say there seemed to be a problem with the drains in the ladies, though the gents were perfectly fine. I'd be happy to eat here again.
