Toptable says about Mestizo Restaurant

A fine Mexican restaurant, run by Mexicans - now there's an appealing prospect. The ground floor of this stylish Hampstead Rd restaurant (only 5 minutes from Warren St tube & Fitzrovia) with it's decor in cream and red with an imposing separate bar area, provides a warm welcome from their friendly staff. 'Downstairs' is a separate lounge and tequila bar where everything from salsa, Latin, Mexican and electronic nights is showcased. Your hosts are Mexican as is the chef, providing authentic Mexican cuisine. One speciality is molcajete - chicken or beef served in a stone bowl, with salsa roja, cheese, chorizo, spring onions, coriander, avocado and tortillas. All prepared to order, there is a wait, but boy are they worth it. A true taste (feel and sound) of Mexico.

Great food, but slow service!

Mestizo did not have the 'wow' factor - i was expecting from the reviews i'd read before booking it! I expected hot & spicy food and was disappointed to find the food very mild! The cocktails were good and dessert very average! Service however was friendly. A tad bit disappointed and won't be rushing back or recommmending it to my friends!

Real Mexican food, which I feel like I'm able to judge since I'm from Oregon and have traveled in Mexico extensively. Decor is a little sparse, and the bathroom (note, it's singular) and service were not the greatest, but I'll be back soon. The tacos are excellent. My favorite filling was the conchinita pibil. Salsas, guacamole, and beans were all fantastic. Low points were the ceviche and the strange chicken/chorizo taco filling, but otherwise all was great! Margaritas too!

Mestizo is a wonderful restaurant with excellent food. This is me second visit and love the place. Our service on this night was rather poor but when we brought it to the manager's attention it was quickly rectified. Will be back.

A really nice restaurant for tapas. The decor is modern but both floors so the atmosphere is still fairly cosy. The restaurant specialises in tequila and there is a wide range of tequila sticks and cocktails for those who want to drink with their meal. The food is delicious, I would especially recommend the pescadilla.
