  • Andrew Vee: Red Sunset, Soviet Occult Research Since the Seventies at Treadwells Bookshop

    Special Event

    16 Feb 2012

This talk builds on Andrew Vee's previous "Red Magic" lecture exploring Soviet occult research from the death of academician Vasil'ev to the demise of the USSR. Tonight looks in detail at some Eastern bloc experiments, and addresses the results. So, how does the Sun orchestrate epidemics and other disasters, and do the planets have their roles? Can our 'sixth sense' foretell the impending calamities? What exactly is the so-called 'biological field' and what makes it so special? Do guinea pigs have ESP abilities and is ESP skin deep? How does an active telepathic communication look on the EEG? Is it easy to build a working mind control machine? Virtually unknown in the West, these experiements are brought to the English-speaking audience by a native Russian-speaker formerly involved in such projects first-hand. Don your tinfoil hats and get ready for possible answers to these and related questions being beamed directly into your pineals.

  • Liana Saif: Unpacking the Picatrix, A Seminal Grimoire Explained at Treadwells Bookshop

    Special Event

    21 Feb 2012

Tonight’s scholar Liana Saif unpacks the magic of the most extraordinary of all grimoires, the Picatrix. For those who know little of Arabic Philosophy and astrology, it can be a hard text to approach, much more challenging than those we are more familiar with, such as the Key of Solomon. This lecture serves as an introduction to this remarkable text: its structure, its underlying philosophy and its main categories of magic. This is a night for everyone who loves a grimoire, who burns a planetary incense, who knows astrology, or who works with the powers of the seven sacred planets. Liana Saif works on Renaissance philosophy and the development of the esoteric traditions of Arabic and Western cultures. She has recently completed her doctoral thesis at Birkbeck College, University of London.
