Kinkao

About Kinkao

A little Thai gem amongst the plethora of Indian establishments on London’s iconic Brick Lane, Kinkao offers locals and tourists a fun alternative to poppadoms and Punjabi prawns. Close to Liverpool Street, Bethnal Green, Aldgate East and Shoreditch stations, Kinkao has become the favourite haunt of east London hipsters and Thai-loving tourists who adore the restaurant’s authentic fare and reasonable prices. Everything here is prepared using fresh ingredients, and signature dishes from the kitchen include the Sui Roi Hung ‘Crying Tiger’ beef marinated overnight in a fiery chilli dipping sauce, the Tom Yam soup and the Larb Gai spicy minced chicken salad. The dining room is a stylish and modern space with dark wooden furniture and atmospheric lighting, and Kinkao is a fun dining destination for nights out with friends, office parties and cosy tables for two.

Food was fairly good, good size portions for the price. Service was a little slow as the restaurant was very busy but overall good value and I would eat there again.

I went for Valentine's night and it had a nice atmosphere with single red rose on every table and first drink complimentary. They appeared to be understaffed and the service, whilst very polite, was chaotic. The 2 starters were brought to the table 10 minutes apart. I could hear mistakes being made at the other tables. The food was only so-so. They had run out of coconut milk which meant some dishes were unavailable. My partner got a mild curry when he asked for spicy. I've had better.

Kinkao in brick lane is as good as large chain Thai restaurants knocking around, but half the price. Good soft shell crab starter. Nice standards like Pad Thai and good range of noodle dishes. Two good size courses plus nice wine, for under £30 a head including tip. No arguing with that!
